O2 Academys

In late 2008, O2 took a giant leap into the the live music business, becoming the name sponsor of the Academy venues. With the naming rights already firmly established in the marketplace such as The O2 & Wireless Festival, their next strategic step was taking the sponsorship naming rights of 15 Academy venues.

After launching a £6m ad campaign highlighting the advantages of the service for gigs, the online presence was launched to showcase the gigs & shows. The site was the main channel to connect their customers with their music presence and of course to sell tickets. Working with a team, I was responsible for the roll out of the creative strategy, design and user interface for 15 new site builds, brand & experience was all with their own bespoke features and differences.

For the scale of this project, an 8 week turn around was one of the quickest and complex project I have worked on. The complete O2 re brand of all Academy venues seemed to happen over night. Not only were all the venues given the VIP treatment but the online presence went from zero to hero in a blink of an eye, making the old tired sponsorship of Carling a distant memory in the punters mind.
